The McLaren Formula One team is rich in heritage, having been formed in 1963 by New Zealander Bruce McLaren. Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited as it was then known set to work on building a Formula One car, and three years later the team made its debut at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix.

McLaren has won eleven Formula One Drivers` Championships and eight Formula One Constructors` Championships including the 1998 and 1999 Drivers` World Championship. McLaren has competed in Formula One since 1966 and has proven to be one of the most successful Formula One teams of all time with 137 Grands Prix wins at the start of the 2004 season. To date, McLaren has raced in 560 Grands Prix.
